Friday is Grandparents/Grandfriends Day! Please dress your child in his/her spiffiest uniform. The program is from 100- 11:30 AM with classroom activities the first hour, followed by the harvest tea.
Winter Holidays and Traditions:
We would like to invite any parents who would like to present their family's traditions/customs of celebration during the winter holiday season (Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or other winter holiday).

This Week in Second Grade:
In summary, here is what we have been working on in the second grade class:
Reading/Writing/Spelling
- Reading Workshop/Independent Reading: practice reading independently at appropriate level. Teacher/student conferencing about reading; "thinking about reading" leads to understanding, making connections, and enjoyment; discovering new vocabulary
- Reading Journal: Recording book titles and making journal entries
- Read Aloud: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Writing Workshop -Continuing through the writing process; using editing marks; using dialogue; Author Share
- Descriptive writing: paying attention to our senses to write descriptivel, "how does an author 'grab' the reader?"
- Lexia (*Though students do login into and practice Lexia each week in class, we recommend that students practice 60 -80 minutes a week. Please ask your second grader to do Lexia practice at home at least twice a week.)
- Subtracting with renaming using standard algorithm
- Measuring Length: Metric and Standard system
